Trump’s ex-adviser John Bolton makes explosive allegations. In his book, he paints a devastating picture of the US president who wants to ban publication. Accordingly, Trump has no foreign policy plan, only pursues his own interests – and has terrifying knowledge gaps.
Foreign policy based on gut instinct, dangerous ignorance and an overwhelming desire for a second term, which is more important to him than the interests of the country – this is how former National Security Advisor John Bolton describes US President Donald Trump’s style of government. “It is really difficult to identify any significant Trump decision during my time at the White House that wasn’t driven by considerations about his re-election,” Bolton wrote in a pre-published chapter by the Wall Street Journal.

With regard to China, Trump has made it clear on several occasions in the negotiations for a trade agreement that he is concerned with achieving a result that would allow him to win in the agricultural states in the US election in November, Bolton wrote .

Trump has beseeched Chinese President Xi Jinping “so that Xi can make sure he wins,” Bolton wrote. “He emphasized the importance of farmers and larger Chinese purchases of soybeans and wheat for the outcome of the election,” wrote Bolton.
Bolton, who worked closely with the President as a security adviser, also accused Trump of frequently basing his foreign policy on gut instinct and ignorance. For example, the president did not know that Great Britain is a nuclear power and once asked whether Finland was part of Russia, as Bolton describes according to the “New York Times”. Trump is also said to have seriously considered leaving NATO.
Bolton also said it was clear that Trump’s personal diplomacy with North Korean ruler Kim Jong-un would never lead to a satisfactory outcome. During a meeting with the North Korean in 2018, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo slipped him a note in which he wrote about Trump: “He talks so much shit,” as the book says. Pompeo also viewed Trump’s North Korea policy as hopeless.
According to Trump, Bolton was a “disgruntled, boring idiot” who “never had a clue” and was “banished” by Trump. “What a fool!” Trump ended his tweet.
Bolton is thus just another name in a long line of former Trump employees who, in retrospect, classified them as absolute wrong appointments – and, based on this argument, should actually raise doubts about his choice of personnel. This included former Justice Secretary Jeff Sessions, Defense Secretary James Mattis, Chief of Staff John Kelly, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Adviser Steve Bannon.
Government sued Bolton’s book
The Washington Department of Justice filed an order with the court on Wednesday to stop the publication by an injunction. The application said the book contained secret government information, the disclosure of which would jeopardize the country’s “national security”.
The U.S. government filed a lawsuit against the publication of the book on Tuesday. Bolton disseminated secret information and endangered national security with the publication, it was also said there as a reason.
