In the current study, only one subject was found to have chosen all true responses. Both hearing voices and lowered pulse rate were incorrectly indicated as true signs/symptoms by 47.4% of the participants. Of particular importance to recognizing a concussion, it should be noted that all participants answered both the headaches and difficulty with memory correctly as indeed signs/symptoms of a concussion. The results are discussed in relation to existing definitions of TB and the importance of using a multifaceted approach to TB. Second, because they result in numerical scores, they have the appearance of being “objective.” Third, the neoliberal zeitgeist emphasizes the importance of measuring individual performance instead of working as a community to address challenges such as improving teaching. For the last 20 years or so, the term has come to be applied to cars with a 660 cc engine making no more than 63hp and measuring less than 11.2 feet in length and 4.9 feet in width.
Pregnancy loss is a common problem, with miscarriage estimated to affect 25% of women who have been pregnant by 39 years of age (Blohm et al., 2008), and ectopic pregnancy occurring in approximately 1% of pregnancies (Varma and Gupta, 2012). There is scope for long-term emotional impact (Beutel et al., 1995). However, historically, this has been overlooked. Recently, here in Texas, a nursing home janitor who had been terminated, later returned with a gun and held the place hostage. The three signs and symptoms that were most commonly not recognized as being part of a concussion were: difficulty falling asleep (54.4% answered incorrectly), inability to describe time and place (28.9% answered incorrectly), and increased emotion/irritability (23.7% answered incorrectly). We suggest that parents indicating these detractors as correct signs and symptoms could be overcautious in analyzing changes in their children’s health or demeanor, or simply that they had the perception that all of the detractors were indeed correct.
Unfortunately, there have been no other studies analyzing the ability of parents to recognize signs and symptoms, so it is difficult to comment on any contrasting or supporting results. Interestingly, mothers were significantly more capable of recognizing the false signs and symptoms added as detractors. Our analysis of data revealed that mothers were more knowledgeable than fathers in identifying the correct signs and symptoms of concussion. Task analysis data were summarized by position. She explained that the crystals in my inner ear had become dislodged and needed to be “re-settled” back into the correct position. The frequency of hitting, battles for the puck, and battles for position were not high when average values were recorded; however, the most active players totaled 25-28 contacts per game. Average shift times were 44.7 s, 43.1 s, and 47.6 s for the C, W, and D, respectively. For every additional day to return to play post-concussion, player times were significantly faster on forward agility weave with and without the puck, transition agility without the puck, and backward speed with and without the puck. Players reporting 2 or more concussions were significantly faster than those with no previous concussion on forward agility weave with the puck.
The total forward skating activities were 258, 227, and 270 for the C, W, and D, respectively. The total backward skating activities were 43, 44, and 146 for the C, W, and D, respectively. Frequencies of starts, stops, crossovers, sharp turns, and direction changes were recorded as well as total forward and backwards skating. The percentage of time spent in backward skating was 4.8% for the C, 5.7% for the W, and 19.2% for the D. Skating movements were totaled for the following movements: starts, stops, crossovers, sharp turns, and front-to-back or back-to-front. Skating patterns of the forwards and defense are significantly different and probably warrant the design of different skates for these positions. I am constantly cautioning the adults who run these programs that they can try to teach kids how to shoot at baskets that are too high up, but their shooting mechanics will not be actual shooting mechanics, they will be “heaving mechanics”.
