Second life, world of warcraft, playstations, the Sims 3, IMVU, Blue Mars, Avatar, Utherverse, Kaneva, Active world, Meet Me, etc. All these virtual games are based on two dimensional and three dimensional effects. Last football season as my fantasy team spiraled towards the worst record I’ve had in 35 years I went in to the league system and created a three custom players, Ray Berry, John Mackey and Lenny Moore. Fantasy football is growing more and more popular by the second. This nine pocket might be more significant for what I didn’t include than for what I did. That got me to chasing the rest of that group of ’58s and really got me going after more vintage subsets. On the other hand, athletes who test positive during routine screening but have no symptoms should rest for two weeks and be monitored carefully when they return to play. Hall of Famer Lenny Moore holds a special place in my heart. Special player, special card. And it’s my favorite player’s rookie card. I dunno. I also left off my Johnny Unitas rookie card. Love this 1961 Fleer Lenny Moore card. The 1961 Topps Wes Covington may be a common on the checklist but there is nothing ‘common’ about it. There were a bunch of other cards that could have easily made the page like Cal Ripken’s rookie or maybe his minor league Rochester Red Wings card. However, there are some designs with lightweight features. For the championship series match-ups, two games are played at the team of the better record, then three games are always played at the stadium of the other team, and the last two are played back again at the better team’s recorded stadium. The Mitre 10 Cup, New Zealand’s annual provincial competition, will start with a full 14-team championship from Sept.
Nate and I will pick each game and give our explanation. Others will make you giggle a little inside. Some are indeed capable of fitting inside a house, even ones that come with a base and a pole. Watching sports in general can give you inspiration to play the ones you’re interested in and can give you motivation to improve on them. I’m looking at several Eddie Giacomin cards as I type and wondering how I can leave out my beloved Eddie! It was hard to leave out one of my Jim Brown cards and I had a couple of Gordie Howe cards in the stack of ‘semi-finalists but my best Howe card is slabbed. Often, the best you can do is to get a racquet that’s fairly close. You can find this all over the card selling sites for a buck and change. And this card comes from the terrific 1964 Philly Gum set. That said, for many people, a portable basketball goal is a little too cheap and flimsy; it doesn’t offer the stability of in ground basketball goals, and it comes across as a bit hokey.
It was hard figuring out which card to include but this one comes from the very first card set I held in my hands, the ’58 Topps. I’ll add a few words about each card below. The Memorial Stadium scoreboard, the crowd, Moore’s pose and the Colts’ logo add up to something much greater than the sum of it’s parts. Pierce has the great ‘flying sox’ logo going for it. I couldn’t leave out Billy Pierce. Truth be told my favorite Pierce items are not regular cards but rather some of the oddballs and specials I have, his Dormand postcard for example. I’ll have to do a follow-up post on the cards sitting on my desk at the moment that I considered and left out. It’s in a slab and I have never gotten around to freeing it. The likes of Roger Federer, Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal and our very own Tim Henman have elevated what was already a well loved sport to new heights in recent history.
