Storyline:
In the early scenes of Mrs. America, we see a woman who parades in a swimsuit in the colors of the American flag, pin-up style; a man with white teeth and wandering hands, like a big bad wolf; then missiles and nuclear weapons become the center of attention. For a bit, it looks like a cartoon by Tex Avery, the author of the pro-USA propaganda short film Blitz Wolf. If her introduction is initially confusing, it is because Phyllis Schlafly is a multifaceted woman. Mother of six children, devoted Catholic, daughter of the Revolution (DAR, the association that brings together the descendants of people who fought for the independence of the United States), Phyllis has already had busy days as a woman in the foyer. His family life is the foundation of his political commitments, but his expertise extends beyond.
After studying political science at university (she graduated at an early age of 19) and worked in an ammunition factory during the war, such as riveter Rosie, she married the wealthy lawyer Fred Schlafly (John Slattery ) and moved his family to Alton, Illinois. Her populist arguments are wrong, but she hammers them endlessly and finds an echo among the housewives who feel aggrieved by the cultural revolutions of the years 1960-1970: Phyllis affirms, pell-mell, that, if the ERA passes, women will be subject to conscription in time of war and disadvantaged in the event of divorce (no more alimony, loss of custody of the children), that public toilets will become mixed and that same-sex marriages will be authorized. His little soldiers are poorly educated housewives (see the episode where one of them embarks on a racist diatribe) who have no career to turn to, and are therefore completely dependent on their husbands financially.
