On Nas’ new hip hop music (click through the next page) record, “Hip-Hop is Dead”, one of my favorite songs is “Carry on Tradition” where Nas challenges, “Let’s see who can quote a Daddy Kane line the fastest.” The younger generation need to be more informed about Hip-Hop pre-2004. Of course there were many crossovers and my best friend’s dad was a huge Marley fan, but that’s another tale. I just know that I began seeing the same groups in homes. So without mentioning Sugar Hill Gang too much… their crazy looking album also had some music that caught my young ears.

Snoop Dogg – Doggystyle: Snoop Dogg, the godfather of the mic, exploded on the scene with this album. Rap music was not the same after this album. With Dre on the production and snoopy lacing the flow there is no better combination.

Finally, start with the basics then increase the complexity gradually. If you want to learn axeg music production, this is the best way.
