What is an IMEI number?

Without getting too techincal. Every device has a unique IMEI number attached to it (International Mobile Equipment Identity).

This 15 digit long number is unique to your device. Every phone or iPhone that has ever been made has an IMEI number attached to it by its manufacturer. It is a relatively simple way to identify a device. It is also used by companies to lock a device to a specific network.

We can use an IMEI number to find information on a device such as Manufacturer, Warranty Status, Original network carrier, Locked status, and if it has been blacklisted or reported lost/stolen.

We use the IMEI number to unlock from whatever network it is locked to. You can do that here or click on the button below if you already know how to find your IMEI and just want to cellphones unlock (events.planmywedding.co.za) your device now.

How to find your IMEI number?

There are various ways to find your IMEI number but this article will show you 4 easy ways:

  1. Dial *#06# to get IMEI code.
  2. Check in phone settings.
  3. Check behind the battery or on the sim card tray.
  4. Check on the box your cell phone came in.

These methods work for iPhone and Android devices such as an iPhone 11 Pro Max or a Samsung Galaxy S10+.

So lets check out some examples. We will start with how to find your IMEI on an iPhone. Click here to go to the Android section,

Finding your IMEI on an iPhone

  1. Go into your iPhone Settings > General and tap About.
  2. You might need to scroll down to find the IMEI/MEID and ICCID.
  3. To paste this information into our unlock form, touch and hold the number to copy and then paste where you need to.

If your IMEI does not appear in there then check the section below.

With the release of the iPhone 6s Plus, Apple decided to move the IMEI location from the back of their devices onto the sim card tray. Below is a list of all models where the IMEI is located on the sim card tray.

The below models have their IMEI number clearly written on the back. Simple way to find it. If your device is bought second hand or has been repaired in the past, then this number may differ from the actual device IMEI.

If you are still rocking one of the older devices then you may find the IMEI number on both the sim card tray and the back of the device. Below are the models that feature both.

What if I don’t have my iPhone?

If you cannot find your device or currently do not have access to it. You can still find your IMEI on the box your iPhone or iPad came in, that is if you still have it laying around.

Alternatively, dialling *#06# will also show any devices IMEI. This method is recommended by us as its very easy to do and lessens the chance of receiving a false number.

How to find my IMEI on an Android?

The process of finding your IMEI on an Android device is similar to finding it on an iPhone.

Go to Settings > About Phone > Status to find out information such as mobile number, IMEI and network. This works for most Android phones.

HTC and Huawei devices show the IMEI on this menu, and others like Samsung and Sony require you to click to view details. It’s generally not that difficult to find.

Nearly all the flagship phones these days feature a glass back that cannot be removed. Before that you could remove the back and pop out the battery. Behind that was a little sticker that featured the devices IMEI.

All smart phone packaging will also feature a lovely little sticker that details all the information you need about your new device. Including its IMEI. Like most people this option may not be available anymore. Not many people keep the original boxes for 2 years or more.

The easiest and most convenient way to find your IMEI on an android mobile phone is to dial *#06#.

It’s simple and works everytime. We recommend our customers or anyone curious to use this method to retrieve their IMEI number.

So now you know what an IMEI number is and how to find it on an iPhone and Android. A word of caution however.

Keeping a hard copy of your IMEI can come in very useful if you ever lose your device. It can be used to report your device as lost or stolen. That’s why we caution people about sharing it on social media or anywhere else. It would be terrible if someone reported your new device lost/stolen when it is still in your possesion. Once it is blacklisted there isn’t much you can do. So be very careful with who you trust your IMEI with.

Unlock Monster only uses an IMEI for unlocking purposes and never ever shares your information with any one.

There are many IMEI checkers available on the web. We recommend www.imei24.com

We use them all the time with no issues.
